Welcome to Rocking M Performance Horses, owned by Amanda McHugh. It has long been my dream to own a top class stud of horses that could halter in the top ten of Australian Halter Classes and then go on to compete competitively and win in a variety of ridden disciplines including Campdrafting, Reining, Showjumping, and Challenges. On this website you will see my dream becoming a reality.

 Welcome to my dream.

I have owned, bred and trained my own horses since I could walk, being born and bred on a horse, I have ridden race horses, stock horses, and worked on stations for years. I have broken and trained horses for a living, helped people with problem horses, and the list goes on, but I have never ever stopped wanting to learn more. In the last few years I finally had the chance to do some halter showing as well as competing regularly at Barrel Racing, Campdrafting and more recently; Showjumping.

After seeing a few halter shows in various breeds one thing stood out from the rest, a lot of halter horses do not ride competitively at high action sports. This greatly disappointed me as the point of halter to me was a standard of excellence for the breed, so if this beautiful, correct, and pretty horse couldn't then go on to work what was the point?

And so began the dream, to breed a horse that could compete in the Top Ten in Australia at halter, and then go on to ride successfully and above all, soundly! I chose to cross two of the greatest saddle and show horse breeds, in the Arabian horse and the QH. And so have purchased two outstanding colts to be the foundation of our stud.

You may well be asking why the cross? The answer is Hybrid Vigour. I believe the QH has gone too over muscled and "tight" in the body and legs to be truly athletic, this is particularly the case in Halter bred QHs, and lately we have seen many judges awarding 1st place at National & State level shows to 1st cross QHs rather than purebreds. As they display more movement, and more elegance than the purebreds.

The Arabian horse while possessing great beauty and refinement, and fabulous presence, lacks some QH characteristics that would greatly assist it in the western performance arena, including cow sense, a slightly more muscular body, and low set hocks. However both breeds have strong points that when crossed should produce an athlete that can halter and ride competitively in any arena in the world.

Arabian horses are known for their excellent saddle horse type, sound legs, great movement, lovely necks, pretty heads and presence. QHs are known best for their cow sense, their muscle, and their quiet dependable natures. I believe the Quarb has a lot to offer to the performance and halter world and I can't wait to start riding some of them! Below are the two very special young stallions chosen to be the foundation of our stud.

All no later than the second or third generation. Most of our mares are widely shown in a variety of disciplines before being added to the broodmare band, so you can rest assured they are "tried & tested" before being bred
